I know I should be using Social Media, but how should I promote my B2B business?
That’s a fantastic question, and it’s crucial for B2B business owners.
The short answer is: Don’t PROMOTE anything with your social media content.
There’s a critical distinction between giving something of value to your subscribers and simply promoting your brand – look at #2 in Top Dislikes in B2B Content above. We all need to understand the goals of our social media efforts before we start pouring in hours of effort.
People don’t use social media because they want to read advertising. True – they may be looking for a deal or a discount, but often people are looking for information. Perhaps something entertaining or something to help them in some way.
Social media is an opportunity to offer that information – to engage, answer questions and help people. In that process, you will be promoting your brand, your knowledge and your value.
Use social media to build value around your brand and your name as someone who is NOT simply trying to sell something. Brand yourself and your company as a trustworthy, valuable resource.
Then, and only then, should you promote your service with coupons or discounts and even then, the majority of your social media efforts should still focus on providing something valuable.
